What's the Essential Eight?

The Essential Eight is the Australian Signals Directorate's list of the eight security strategies that stop most cyber attacks on Australian organisations — things like keeping software patched, using multi-factor authentication, and having backups an attacker can't delete.

Each strategy is measured against maturity levels. This scorecard assesses you honestly against Maturity Level 1 (the baseline every business should reach) and Level 2 (a stronger posture for higher-risk organisations), using the official all-or-nothing method — plus progress bars that show how close you are.
